Technical Information

It’s time for some year-end cleaning

by MACC’s Technical Support Team

As the New Year is almost upon us, it is time to go out with the old and make space for the new! Do you have unused programs or files on your computer? If the answer is yes, now may be a good time to perform some cleanup.

Check your Downloads folder for any downloaded items you may no longer need. Are there any other files on your computer you don’t need to access regularly? Now would be a good time to organize them. Purge the files that are no longer needed and archive the ones you need to keep.

Do you have documents containing sensitive data? Take the time to move them to a secure location and even password protect them. This is also a good time to clean up any installed programs you no longer use. And, of course, always make sure you have good backups of your data before deleting anything.

When you delete files, they will be stored in the Recycle Bin. This can be beneficial if you need to retrieve something you inadvertently deleted, but if you intend to delete something, be sure to empty your Recycle Bin as well. This can be done by right-clicking on the Recycle Bin and selecting Empty Recycle Bin. By regularly practicing some basic computer hygiene, you can help keep your computer clean, safe and organized!

If you need assistance getting your computer cleaned up, don’t hesitate to contact your MACC Tech Support Team and we will be happy to help! We can be reached at 402-533-5300, or via email, at macctechs@maccnet.com. Remember, a clean computer is a happy computer!
